Supervisor candidate Jeff Hewitt – another deadbeat tax-dodger seeking elected office

10/13/18 – Most of us have seen his campaign poster. It’s the one with the guy giving us that “know-it-all” look. The guy with those beady eyes, who seems to have trouble cracking a smile. That’s Jeff Hewitt, candidate for County Supervisor District 5.

What’s wrong with him? Short answer: pretty much everything.

Hewitt is Calimesa’s Mayor. In 2016 he attempted to run for State Assembly and failed. Now he wants to become County Supervisor.

Unfortunately for the voters of Riverside County, no publication has ever bothered to examine Mr. Hewitt’s rather illustrious background. We thought that ought to change.

LIENS, LIENS AND MORE LIENS

IRSReaders of this publication may remember that Banning’s former Mayor, Don Robinsonavoided paying his fair share of property taxes for years, while at the same time handing out millions in redevelopment dollars (see  details). Eventually the IRS also caught up with him and filed tax liens (view).

Then there is James C. Smith, a former Banning School Board Trustee and former candidate for the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency. It is a matter of public record that the City of Banning currently holds judgments against Smith totaling roughly $100,000. Smith also owes numerous creditors, as well as the IRS and the State of California, to include the Department of Justice, hundreds of thousands of dollars in total (see story for details).

So what do these two deadbeats have in common with Jeff Hewitt, you may ask? A lot. An awful lot.

fedtaxlienAs a matter of fact, when it comes to tax liens, Jeff Hewitt beats them both. Over the past three decades, Hewitt managed to accumulate close to $200,000 in Federal, County and State liens, (see a few examples here).

According to public filings, some liens were satisfied, while others show no record of ever being released.

Apparently, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association failed to do their homework on this tax-dodger, when they gave him their unconditional endorsement. With his personal conduct, Hewitt clearly is a disgrace, not a champion, to every hard working taxpayer out there.

HEWITT NOT PAYING HIS FAIR SHARE FOR ELECTRICITY EITHER

judgmentPublic record shows that in 2009, Jeff Hewitt did not pay his fair share for electricity either. This caused Southern California Edison to obtain a judgment against him in the amount of $2,181,83 (see copy).

Once again, this behavior is reminiscent of Banning’s former Mayor Don Robinson, who also was a deadbeat when it came to paying his electric bills (see previous story). Robinson even went as far a writing bad checks to the Banning utility, who he oversaw as a Director at the time.

Hewitt, on the other hand, appears to think that paying your electric bills, or any Federal State and local taxes for that matter, is just for suckers. For him, it must be a libertarian thing ….

HEWITT’S CONTRACTOR’S LICENSE PREVIOUSLY SUSPENDED FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH WORKMAN’S COMP LAWS

Hewitt owns a swimming pool construction business. While his contractor’s license is currently valid, it was suspended earlier this year for failure to comply with workman’s comp laws, (view screenshot).

Undoubtedly, Jeff Hewitt is displaying a disturbing pattern of consistently behaving as if he was exempt from the law.

HEWITT AND THE GATEWAY WAREHOUSE PROJECT

In early 2015, an unprecedented number of Pass area residents had voiced their opposition to the controversial 1.8 million square foot “Gateway” warehouse project, located on Cherry Valley Boulevard.

nowatgatewayIt was during this time that the Calimesa City council attempted to pass a resolution to invoke a moratorium on the development of warehouses. Jeff Hewitt cast the deciding vote on the resolution, which required a 2/3 majority to pass. Despite widespread public outrage against the project, Hewitt voted against the moratorium, causing it to fail.

Why would he do such a thing? Pretty simple : just follow the money.

Hewitt owned property on Roberts Road, which is in immediate proximity to the Gateway Project. For whatever reason, his property has since been sold to a family member. With the Gateway project now approved by the County, his family stands to make a fortune on the land they own.

Arguably, it was Jeff Hewitt who helped the Gateway project succeed, so it could sail smoothly through the County approval process – and effectively destroy the rural character of Cherry Valley forever. Just keep that in mind when you cast your ballot.

HEWITT’S DECLARED GOAL:  “ MESS UP GOVERNMENT”

Earlier this year, Jeff Hewitt gave an video interview to a guy, who may be even scarier than he is : his name is Adam Kokesh.

Kokesh is an activist and a “Libertarian Presidential candidate”. Kokesh also has a criminal record (view Washington Post article).

Additionally, only 3 ½ months prior to the interview with Hewitt, Kokesh was arrested again in Texas and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance in the second degree and possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence, (view source).  So much for the person Mr. Hewitt associates with and chooses to give an interview to.

As for the video itself, we can hear Jeff Hewitt ramble on about his life in politics and how important he is, all without much coherence.

But at the 6 min 10 sec mark, Hewitt starts going off the deep end. He proclaims that only if you “have everyone equally pissed off”, can you be assured to have made the “right decision”.

Wow. Is that what our Founding Fathers had in mind? Did they envision government officials tapping themselves on the back for pissing off all of the people equally? No – they didn’t. But anarchists do.

As the interview continues, Hewitt’s already bizarre rant peaks to a new level, when he is asked about the appeal of running for County Supervisor. Hewitt’s answer : it will give him an opportunity to “mess up government”.

This interview is a must watch for every voter:

If this comment was supposed to be a joke, it was a bad one, because not even Hewitt is laughing. And neither will be anyone living in Riverside County, once this lunatic makes it into office.

CONCLUSION

Watch out folks – do NOT elect yet another smooth talking deadbeat as your leader. Don’t let this loser get ahold of the very tax dollars he never choses to pay.
